Analecia Guthrie began her professional career during undergrad working as a teacher-counselor at Youth Villages in Arlington, TN. After graduating from The University of Memphis she began teaching at a preschool and had one student with autism. The world was still learning and being made aware about autism so there wasn't any required training on the subject for teachers at the time. During her undergraduate program, Analecia sought out police psychologist Dr. Ray Turner and was given the opportunity to shadow, assist him, and administer MMPI evaluations to prospective police officers in training at the Memphis Police Academy. When Analecia moved to California she began working as a behaviorist in ABA while completing her graduate program. She worked for several ABA agencies to gain awareness and practice, and interacted with clients from many different backgrounds. Analecia volunteered with Didi Hirsch as a suicide prevention counselor and acquired very meaningful experiences. Towards the end of her graduate program, Analecia landed her practicum with Antioch University's Community Mental Health Center where she was able to practice under the supervision of Dr. Eric Day who has over 35 years of experience.
Analecia took an opportunity to work with a non-profit organization's summer book reading program. The students were reading two race related books that could bring up feelings and emotions they may not understand so Analecia conducted weekly check-ins with each student to discuss their personal thoughts and emotions surrounding the topics while addressing anything they needed/ wanted to process.
While working with an agency as a behavior technician, one of the school's that Analecia had been assigned to wanted to hire her on as their permanent behaviorist. Analecia took the opportunity and continued working with the school up until Covid shut everything down. During Covid, Analecia went to Tennessee to support her family for a short time. During this time, school was starting back and there were numerous parents who did not want their children to go to school in person so soon. Analecia understood the challenges parents, students, and teachers were facing so she acquired a small space in Knoxville, TN and started a virtual learning school in which she managed 6 students of different grade levels and different schools while closely following the CDC and Knox County School's safety and sanitation protocols during the fall 2020 semester. Spring 2021, all students returned back to school in person and Analecia went back to California. She then began working as a family architect with Cognition Builders, in which she performed intensive around the clock behavioral support to families while working directly with their entire treatment teams. Analecia currently works with Volunteers of America as a 988 crisis counselor and she truly admires this position. Analecia has spent her entire career continuously learning and searching for opportunities in which she can gain professional development, further her experience and continue to pour into the lives of youth and those in need.
